ON APRIL 27th, 2015 THE HISPANIC ARTS COUNCIL AWARDED ITS ANNUAL 'JOHN F. GARGANIGO SCHOLARSHIPS' TO 5 LATINO COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS WHO WERE PART OF THE ANNUAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY 'PUERTAS COLLEGE PREP PROGRAM' , AN OUTREACH PROGRAM SERVING THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY IN SOUTH ST. LOUIS. HAC PARTNERED WITH THE WASH UNIV. PROGRAM IN 2007 TO BENEFIT HISPANIC LOW INCOME STUDENTS WHO TAKE THE ANNUAL COLLEGE PREP. THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TAKES ITS NAME FROM DR. JOHN F. GARGANIGO, FORMER PROF. OF LATIN AMERICAN LITERATURE AT THE WASH UNIV. ROMANCE LANGUAGES & LITERATURE DEPARTMENT WHO IS AN ADVOCATE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE. ANHEUSER-BUSCH CO. IS THE MAJOR SPONSOR OF THIS SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING. AWARDEES OF THE SCHOLARSHIP ARE, FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, ADRIANA VALENZUELA PURSUING A CAREER IN BIOTECHNOLOGY; NAOMI CARRANZA, MARIA VARGAS AND TERESA GODINA PURSUING A DEGREE IN NURSING; AND LUIS ANGEL GONZALEZ PURSUING A DEGREE IN HEALTH CARE . HAC CONGRATULATES ALL THE AWARDEES!
